Why We’re Here
This isn’t about quick fixes.
Recovery is hard. Staying sober is even harder without the right environment, support, and accountability.
At Henry’s House, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to rebuild their life.
That’s why we provide safe, structured sober living environments where accountability, community, and personal responsibility support long-term recovery.
Our goal is simple: help individuals build a strong foundation for lasting change while providing families with peace of mind that their loved one is in a place that takes recovery seriously.
Because recovery is about more than getting sober. It’s about rebuilding relationships, restoring purpose, and creating a better future.
Our Approach
Recovery doesn’t happen overnight.
It happens one day, one decision, and one step at a time.
That’s why Henry’s House focuses on creating an environment where residents can build healthy routines, strengthen relationships, develop accountability, and move toward greater independence.
Our core principles are simple:
- Accountability over excuses
- Structure over chaos
- Community over isolation
- Progress over perfection
- Respect for every individual
Recovery isn’t about being perfect. It’s about continuing to move forward.

Our Journey
Henry’s House was founded in October 2001 by Henry English with the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Hollis Chester. What began as one man’s commitment to helping others overcome addiction has grown into one of Chicago’s longest-serving sober living organizations.
In the early years, Henry’s House focused on providing individuals with a safe place to begin again and the support needed to stay on the path to recovery
Over the years, the organization expanded its reach, received support from community leaders including then Illinois State Senator Barack Obama, and helped thousands of individuals rebuild their lives.
Today, Henry’s House operates five sober living homes serving Chicago’s Woodlawn, Greater Grand Crossing, and Englewood communities.
As Henry’s House has grown, its visual identity has evolved as well. The refreshed logo reflects the organization we are today while honoring the foundation that brought us here. The look may have changed, but the mission remains the same: helping people find stability, hope, and a path forward.
For
Families
No confusion. No guesswork.
If you’re here because someone you care about is struggling, we understand. Addiction affects more than one person. It impacts families, friendships, and entire support systems.
We know the worry, frustration, uncertainty, and hope that often come with helping a loved one seek recovery. Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive environment where residents can focus on rebuilding their lives while families gain confidence that their loved one is in a place that takes recovery seriously.
You are not alone in this journey either.
